So, this morning I was killing time getting my car serviced I decided to upgrade my Proxmox servers to 9.2. After doing this everything looked like it came back up. Could not tell as I was remote but looked good. As soon as I came home a few things were acting dodgy and I figured out it was DNS, in particular PI-Hole is what I have running in a container. Upon further inspection Pi-Hole was not starting. I ran a few items against it and was left with a couple of items
Rebuild the container, would not take too long, and honestly if I had my scripts would be easy.
Use the backup.
I chose 2, I run Proxmox Backup Server and it was backed up. It restored quickly and everything was back up.
Thoughts,
When you back up have a plan on how much you are going to keep versus what you are backing up.
There are many ways to back your stuff up, from rsync, to duplcati, to time machine, to other built in solutions. Take one and stick with it.
You should verify your backups at least once a quarter if not more.
I like to also have an offsite backup, it doesn't have to be as frequent, but I do mine at least once a month and one once a year off-site. I am tied into Wasabi for 5.00 a TB a month.
